Strip the bed, clear the room, and identify how the frame is assembled before removing hardware. The safest preparation is often organization, not complete do-it-yourself disassembly.

Before loosening anything

Remove sheets, pillows, storage bins, and personal items. Photograph each corner joint and any center support. Keep a small labeled bag ready for bolts and brackets. If the frame has drawers, lighting, motors, or lift hardware, stop and identify the model before taking it apart.

Separate simple parts in order

For a straightforward slat frame, remove loose slats first, followed by the center rail and clearly accessible side-rail fasteners. Keep matching hardware together. Do not pry glued joints or force concealed clips. Upholstered and adjustable bases can be heavier than they appear and may require the crew to assess them assembled.

Room-ready checklist

  • Bedding and personal items removed
  • Photos taken before disassembly
  • Hardware bag labeled
  • Loose slats bundled
  • Exit route and stairs clear
  • Powered base disconnected only per manufacturer guidance

Describe the full bedroom set

A headboard, footboard, mattress, box spring, under-bed drawers, and nightstands are separate pieces. List them individually so the scope does not change at the doorway. See the bed and frame removal page for access and estimate factors.
